FIEGE celebrates topping out ceremony for new logistics centre near Leipzig

FIEGE’s new logistics centre in Borna is growing as scheduled. The logistics company from Greven in Westphalia is creating adaptable growth areas for clients from a range of sectors at the Borna-Ost industrial estate. The topping out ceremony for the cutting-edge property took place with Borna’s Lord Mayor, Oliver Urban in attendance, on Wednesday.
Construction is progressing as planned: FIEGE celebrated the topping out ceremony for a new multi-user centre in Borna. The property, which is located in close proximity to the A72 motorway and divided into four sections, will create approximately 40,000 square metres of logistics space for clients operating in a range of sectors, plus additional premises for administration, offices and communal rooms. With this new sustainable building, the 150+ year-old family business is emphasising its presence in the logistics region of Leipzig/ Halle.

Oliver Urban, Lord Mayor of Borna, said in his welcoming address: “For FIEGE’s new logistics centre to be based in Borna is a crucial incentive for our city and the entire region. By creating modern jobs and using a sustainable design, FIEGE’s contribution is valuable to both the economic development as well as energy transition. We very much look forward to a successful collaboration and welcome FIEGE warmly!”
A primary focus of the project for which FIEGE Real Estate is responsible, is sustainability. For example, the property will feature intelligent building control systems, and the front of the offices will be clad in a wooden façade. Central heating and cooling are achieved with air-to-water heat pumps, while high efficiency LEDs are used for the lighting. FIEGE will install a photovoltaic system on the rooftop with a capacity of around 4,500 kilowatt peak. The energy thus produced will partly also be used for the EV charging infrastructure.

Completion is scheduled for the late summer of 2025. The logistics centre is to meet the EG 40 standard as well as the requirements for Gold certification (2023) from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Nikolaus von Blomberg, who co-manages Fiege Real Estate together with Kai Alfermann and Thoralf Schuster in the position of Managing Director, explained: “It is our goal to rethink the logistics property of the future. By interconnecting the different Energy Solutions measures, we can grow our logistics centres into becoming small, sustainable power plants – not just in Borna. And thanks to our comprehensive biodiversity concept we make sure that we treat nature with the greatest possible care.”
