The logistics service provider FIEGE is expanding its location in the Austrian capital. In a central location and in close proximity to the existing site in Vienna, the more than 150-year-old family business is building an additional logistics centre . The Completion is scheduled for next summer. On Thursday, the topping out ceremony took place.

The shell is complete: The FIEGE family business held the topping out ceremony for its new logistics centre in Vienna on Thursday. The modern property, which is being built on the former Unilever production site in 7th Haidequerstraße, will more than double the capacity of the logistics service provider from Greven in Westphalia (Germany) in the 11th district of Vienna, Simmering. Following completion in early summer 2025, the two-storey multi-user centre will offer 20,000 square metres of additional logistics space for clients from the fashion, healthcare and consumer products industries.

The project is being realised by FIEGE Real Estate. "As with all of our projects, we are also focusing on sustainability in this case", says Kai Alfermann, Managing Director at FIEGE Real Estate. According to Alfermann, the new logistics centre is being built to high energy standards and meets the gold status of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). "It is an exciting brownfield project that we are developing here - and we are delighted that, after the demolition of the former building that used to stand here, we can now slowly see what a state-of-the-art logistics centre will soon be standing here."

Michael Jahn, Managing Director of FIEGE Austria explains: "It is not only the proximity to Vienna Airport that allows us to offer our clients the best international conditions. Due to the good transport connections of our two central locations, we can also ensure optimal access to the Vienna metropolitan area and the Austrian logistics market." This will enable FIEGE to offer efficient logistics solutions to clients from different industries, ranging from warehousing and transportation to value-added services, says Jahn. "In addition, our new logistics centre is designed for a wide range of automation options, ensuring maximum flexibility and long-term growth opportunities."

Thomas Steinhart, District head of Simmering, who was among the speakers at the topping out ceremony says: "It is impressive how quickly the logistics centre is growing and the project is progressing. And it is nice to see that FIEGE as a family business is committing to the Simmering location with a further site in Vienna. Logistics is a mainstay of our economy and therefore ultimately also of our prosperity. This is why we need companies like FIEGE that prioritise sustainability, think long-term and are willing to invest in the future."

And Peter Scherbel, member of the FIEGE Executive Board says: "We are delighted and grateful that we are able to continue our growth in Austria. With this new building, we are counteracting the general trend of a shortage of warehouse space and can offer our existing partners and future new clients logistics capacities close to the centre of Vienna. Our new logistics centre is another milestone in our company history of over 150-years - not only for FIEGE Austria, but for the entire FIEGE Group. I am already looking forward to coming back next summer for the opening."
