The logistics company FIEGE is one of the consortium partners in the RoX cooperative project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). The aim of the research programme is to encourage the use of innovative AI-based robotics solutions in various sectors and applications with practical relevance.

Coming together to create more innovative power: FIEGE participates in the new RoX project. The consortium of leading enterprises from industry and science communities has made it its mission to create a digital ecosystem that aims to shorten innovation cycles of AI and robotics components and facilitate their practical application. With this association, FIEGE is preparing itself together with its consortium partners for the growing demand in efficient and flexible automation solutions.

Kenza Ait Si Abbou, Executive Board Director and CTO at FIEGE explains: “The use of AI-based robotics bears considerable potential especially in view of the growing shortage of skilled personnel – not just in the logistics industry. The high complexity of these systems, however, means that it is more difficult for an individual market participant to build the necessary know-how. For this reason, we have decided to join forces with other companies from economic and research sectors, to establish the current need as well as use-cases with practical relevance and jointly develop transferable solutions for these problem statements.”

Central areas of application include loading and offloading processes throughout the entire logistics chain, order picking processes in non-structured environments, multi-functional and flexible-location robotic systems within production as well as the AI-based launch of robot systems. The RoX project centres here on the integration of practice-focused solutions in development and application environments, the provision of quality-assured software components and AI models as well as the development of semantic models and meta data structures. Data security for the robotic ecosystem as well as networking with international initiatives form an integral part of these efforts.

The contract logistics specialist FIEGE will contribute its expertise especially to an order picking subproject and provide real-life testing environments at its logistics centres. Ait Si Abbou says: “We believe that our participation in the RoX project is an important contribution to improving Germany’s location factors and increasing our innovative strength as well as international competitiveness. We are looking forward to this cooperative partnership.”
