Well Building Standard: FIEGE builds ultramodern logistics centre in Barleben
On an area of around 90.000 square metres located to the north of Magdeburg is where a new multi-user location is being built for the healthcare business unit.
FIEGE is building a new logistics centre in Saxony-Anhalt. In Barleben to the north of Magdeburg, the family business from Greven in Westphalia is building an ultramodern multi-user facility for its Healthcare business unit on an area of around 90,000 square metres. 42,000 square metres of logistics space in total will be created in Barleben, spread across four hall bays, two cold storages, and two attached office ensembles. The new FIEGE location is scheduled for completion by the end of 2022. The new build project will be executed by the FIEGE Real Estate business unit in collaboration with Bremer as the general contractor and the architecture firm, Jürgen Schlake.
Dirk Berlemann, Managing Director FIEGE Healthcare: “Our new logistics centre features zones with various temperatures and thus facilitates the handling of sensitive medicines. However, the highlight of this location is hands down the ability to cater to prescription drugs, where we meet highest requirements in terms of safety and documentation – this is literally the Champions League of pharmaceutical logistics.”
FIEGE satisfies not only the strictest safety requirements in Barleben. The logistics company furthermore observes maximum standards across the board during the construction of the new location, which boasts excellent access to the A2 motorway towards Hanover and Berlin, as well as to the A14 in the direction of Leipzig and Halle (Saale). One example of this is that the logistics centre in Barleben is being built with the health and satisfaction of employees working there in mind, in accordance with the WELL Building Standard; as for the facility’s sustainability record, this is taken into account by the Platinum Standard certification from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
Kai Alfermann, Managing Director FIEGE Real Estate, explains: “Sustainability is no longer just a strategic priority here at the company, but also played quite a central role while planning our new facility in Barleben. For this reason, the new build will feature, amongst other things, a photovoltaic system as well as an efficient building control system, sustainable building materials, green façades as well as a perfect charging infrastructure for EV mobility.”
